How to Play Texas Holdem

Texas Holdem is usually played with a five card hand.  Each player must use the two cards that they are dealt in their hand and can then choose any three in the four flop cards as part of their hand.  Card hands can only consist of five cards.

If a player has two good cards in his hand, such as a pair, and there is another card in the flop like it, that means he has three of a kind and a good chance of winning the game.  Before embarking on a Texas Holdem card game, you should know what beats what in poker.  Texas Holdem is a variation of poker, nothing more.  It is really like playing with only two cards as everyone else has the opportunity to use the flop cards. 

After the flop cards are turned up and there are still people in the game, the turn card is then turned up.  This is the fourth of the community cards that are in the center of the table.  Many people end up going out after the turn card as it really determines what type of hand they have.  Some stay in for the fifth and final card of the community cards which is the river card. The basic concept of the game is that you have to make a hand using five cards, two of which have to the be the cards that you were dealt in the beginning of the game. Then you can use any three of the community cards to make your hand. 

Omaha is similar to Texas Holdem except that you are dealt four cards down instead of two. You get the same number of community cards but have a choice of which two cards from your dealt cards you can use in your hand. You can only use two.
